Make sure you read along with the scene as you are watching/listening to the scene. This is Act 2, Scene 1. Then, answer the questions in the comments section (make sure you proofread carefully your response - no extra credit will be given if the grammar affects what you are trying to say).
These are students from Towson's Theater Department, acting out Scene 2.1.
1. What moments in the scene surprised you? Which were different from what you expected?
2. Which moments in the scene were how you imagined them while reading?
3. What choices did the actors make in their reading of the scene? How did this create meaning? What elements of their characters did they seem to be trying to emphasize?

1. When the video clip first came on I was most surprise by who was playing Troy. (That was the same boy that acted at One Mans Theatre.) The scene in the clip was different than how I imagined it, Since in the book I know Troy was supposed to build a fence, I would think there would be a big open space.
2.Actually in the scene nothing was how I imagined it while reading I imagined a whole different type of scene.
3. The actors had choices, there choices was what tones and pitches used, also how they were going to say it. It created a meaning by how the audience viewed and understand it. Determined by how serious the audience took the scene. I think the elements they tried to emphasize, is the anger and disappointment of Rose, and the anger from Troy.

1. The Scene Acted Was Suprising in alot of ways. The man who played Troy did not really fit the physical descripiton described in the book.He was actually the actor the have seen earlier this year at Everyman Theatre. It also surprised me that Corey never Came Out in this scene. I pictured the house being different , more open space and country like.
2. I imagined Rose just like she appeared. A soft voice , small , but a lot of heart.
3.The actor playing troy changed lines a little to maybe fit him . The actions, facial expressing used , and tone of voice affected Rose's emotions.

What surprised me the most is who the actors were. What was different is how Troy was supposed to be building a fence, but he didnt, so in the video, they didnt copy from the book, they had a fence.
2. Which moments in the scene were how you imagined them while reading?
The whole scene of the play was exactly how i imagined in my head while i was reading along.
3. What choices did the actors make in their reading of the scene? How did this create meaning? What elements of their characters did they seem to be trying to emphasize?
Their choices were how they were going to read the play to sound like the actual play. It created meaning by how the setting and how the scene was acted out. They were emphasizing the stress and disappointment of Rose.
1.Moments in the scene where you could see the pain on Troy's face surprised me because when I read the scene it seemed as though he would have had somewhat of a blank expression.
2.The way the actress for Rose acted was almost identical to what I imagined when I read the scene, even the places where she got loud and quiet.
3. The actors chose to put a lot of expression in their faces throughout the duration of the scene, this made it more engaging and made their own emotions come off more. The thing that the actors seemed to be emphasizing the most was the conflicting emotions that Troy and Rose felt toward each other.

1. The moments of the scene that were most surprising was how young the characters playing Troy and Rose were. The scene was different than how I imagined it because I thought it would be more dramatic and Rose would be very furious were as though she was so close to hitting Troy.
2. The moments in the scene that was how I imagined it was when Troy began to speak. That same expression and tone of voice he used were just how I imagined it.
3. The actors choice was the tone of there voice and how to make the lines come alive. It created a meaning because the seriousness of the characters made the audience feel the pain that Rose felt. I think the elements they were trying to emphasize was the anger, pain, and disappointment Rose felt toward Troy.
1. The man who played Troy wasn't as big or old as I thought he would be, and I thought that Rose woild be louder and have a more agressive tone.
2. I imagined Rose being mad at Troy, and Troy thinking that cheating on Rose was okay and he wasn't very apologetic.
3. Rose was very sad and her tone was angry but not overpowering, and Troy was defensive and unapologetic for what he did to Rose. Rose seemed to be trying to emphasize anger and sadness, and Troy seemed to try to be very defensive.
