In the first presentation, the actress portrays Rose as somewhat manic. Perhaps she interpreted Rose as being slowly crazed over the years, due to Troy’s lack of interest. In some parts, she is smiling, almost laughing, wide eyed, and at other times she is yelling, or crying.

In the second presentation, the actress also portrays Rose as somewhat hysterical, but mainly trying to hide her emotion. She seems to be trying very hard to choke back tears, and at parts, her chin quivers as if she is about to burst out sobbing. The actress probably wants to stress that Rose is a strong woman that can hold back her emotions.

The reason this monologue is so popular is because the scarcity of directions for the part allow for different interpretations of blocking and of emotions. Actresses can come up with their own fresh ideas on how to read the part.

1.Both of the actresses doing this monologue made choices about how they wanted the character of Rose to come off to the audience. The first woman made the choice to make Rose seem very emotional. In the second audition, the woman portraying Rose makes the choice of making Rose seem more angry yet in control of her emotions.
2. Rose's monologue is probably so popular for female auditions because it allows the actresses a lot of freedom with the part. This allows them to embrace the character and put themselves as actresses into the character. This is because this will help any kind of casting agent see what kind of actress they are and how creative they can be with different characters.
